What to you do when you want to get students excited for a future lesson, but you don't want to introduce it in the same boring way? Make it into a trailer! A growing trend among teachers has iMovie as the central tool in creating fresh, exciting ways to present any future lesson to students. Think of how you feel when you see a movie trailer for the first time. You see just enough of the movie to keep the rest a surprise but plenty to tell if the flick will be worth watching. The same logic applies here. Pretty cool, right?
I think this is a great option to hype up students for what may be a particularly tough lesson. Allowing the students to see some of what they will be required to do beforehand will allow for context and hopefully get the students to see any real world application right off the bat. Plus it's super easy to operate. The iMovie app has a tab specifically for trailers. There are different genera available depending on which mood you want to set for the lesson. When creating mine I wanted for a whimsical feel, so I chose the fairy tale theme. Each theme comes with a template complete with music and transtions. All you have to worry about is shooting the video segments for each slot. Easy peasy. Since most trailers top out at a minute this could be the perfect way to end the period or send kids off to lunch . Get creative! If you decide to give it a go I would love to see your trailer. Feel free to share it with me via any of my links below!
Until next time!
