Infographics: one of a teachers best friends (in my opinion). These puppies make information so pleasant to look at you wouldn't mind reading about a recent scientific breakthrough, to movie special effects, to microeconomics. They bring life to the bare boring walls a teacher is supplied with at the start of employment. Really though, think back to those K-12 days. Which classrooms did you prefer to be in: the ones covered in bright posters that actually brought some relevance to the content you were supposed to be learning, or the rooms that looked like a prison cell because your teacher couldn't be bothered to hang up a poster or two? I think we both know the answer to that question.
With the growing popularity of technology the availability of infographics has also risen. Anyone, anywhere can create these things. And no you don't have to be a crazy talented graphic designer to do it. As much as I love supporting artists of all types I do understand paying to have someone create cool stuff to hang up on the wall or post to the class website can become quite costly. The alternative being do it yourself.

Many apps and websites exist for the sole purpose of creating infographics. This go-around I chose to use Piktochart an app available on the iPad or on the web. You can use the free version like I did, or if you wish there are premium options to get more backgrounds, store more online, download as a PDF, or get rid of the watermark. Plans range from $1.99-$39.99 based on the monthly or yearly plan you would like and the options that fit your needs. The free option is pretty cool too and it is easy to operate. Here is my design for something I might use in a ceramics classroom to educate students about the versatility of the material.
Also, I found this video to be very helpful while learning to use the app.
Overall I really like this app. It's user friendly and for the low price-point of FREE you really get a good amount of features and options to customize anything you wish to make. And you aren't limited to infographics either, you can make posters, banners, anything under the sun it seems. Give it a go for yourself! If you do feel free to share your creation with me. I would love to see them! I've taken quite a shining to infographics, so much so I started a Pinterest board to keep the ones I really like. Check that too if you like.
