Mathy cathy
Classroom blogs can seem daunting at the start. Well, really any blog can seem scary. The word "blog" itself seems like a lot of work-- suggesting many posts per week or month. It kind of makes my head spin. Thankfully blogs don't have to be that way. Cathy Yenca has created a blog with loads of information to share... but she only posts a few times a month.
MathyCathy is a blog with a sleek, simple design that is super easy to navigate. The design of the website looks clean and crisp. Not slap-in-the-face colors that will make your head spin, but the website isn't completely devoid of color. An aspect I really appreciate. Aside from design the actual content of the website is wonderful. Reading through the posts it's clear Mrs. Yenca cares about her students and the quality instruction she provides. For instance, at a loss for what to do to keep her students engaged on the tough subject of standard deviation Mrs. Yenca turned to the help of interactive websites to create a game for her kids to use at a set pace and work through in groups. She even created a class tournament out of it! Needless to say the kids immediately took to the task and thoroughly enjoyed the lesson. |
To help other teachers Mrs. Yenca has made many of her resources public on her website. They should be listed along the right-hand side of the page or you can navigate to them at the top bar. For any current or future math teachers I would advise you to bookmark this page. To any other teacher I would say look at this website as an example for ideas to organize a webpage or to present your own information in a way that is user-friendly.
In addition to her website, Mrs. Yenca can be found on twitter. I truly hope you give her a look!
Until next time!
